Uprooted trees, torn roofs… The violent storms that hit central-eastern France made many notables in several departments that had been placed on orange alert by Météo France on Saturday July 15. On Sunday, meteorological vigilance was lifted but individuals saw the damage created by this phenomenon, with heavy rainfall and heavy hailstorms filmed by Internet users, from Haute-Saône to Haute-Loire, via Jura. Some of these departments had already been affected by storms earlier this week.

The Saône-et-Loire was hit by bad weather and strong gusts of wind, which caused trees to fall along the road, as in Saint-Martin-du-Mont, below.

In Saint-Martin-Belle-Roche, in the same department, hail fell heavily, to the point of covering the lawns with a thin white coat.

In Ain, the roof of the nursing home in Pont-de-Vaux flew off on Saturday evening, requiring the evacuation of 40 residents. “The remaining 115 residents have been brought to safety”, Codis told France 3. The operations lasted until shortly before 3 a.m. on Sunday, and were carried out by firefighters but also private paramedics and approved civil protection associations. However, no serious injuries were reported.

Ain firefighters carried out 160 interventions

In this same city, in the afternoon, the firefighters also had to intervene to disembark 45 passengers from a municipal cruise ship, blocked on a canal by tree trunks and branches whose fall had was caused by the storm. In total, contacted by AFP, the Ain firefighters carried out between Saturday and Sunday 160 interventions, mainly for roof covering operations.

In the Doubs, the firefighters carried out a dozen interventions, according to a report released on Sunday morning. The rain fell heavily in Besançon, prefecture of the department.
