The English theater located in Old Montreal has been asking for help from Quebec for several years in order to carry out maintenance and upgrade work on its heritage building. It is now confirmed, the government announced this Thursday the payment of 4 million.
The amount granted as part of the Capital Assistance program will allow the Centaur Theater to carry out several works, including the replacement and raising of the stage cage, the replacement of the lifting system, the waterproofing of the roof, the waterproofing of the foundations at the rear, as well as the replacement of part of the electromechanical devices.
“The Centaur Theater is an important symbol of artistic vitality for the English-speaking community in Montreal. We are proud to contribute to bringing its buildings up to standard, which will add luster to a unique heritage sector of Old Montreal,” said the Minister of Finance and Minister responsible for Relations with Quebecers of Expression in a press release.
