The CBC/Radio-Canada does not intend to broadcast more on

(Ottawa) Six months after reducing its presence on X, the CBC/Radio-Canada does not plan to become more active on this platform.

Spokesman Leon Mar explained that messages broadcast on X do not necessarily lead to a larger audience for the public broadcaster.

Without providing specific data, he cited a report from the Reuters Institute indicating that only 11% of Canadians used X to obtain information.

The CBC/Radio-Canada announced in May that it was resuming publications on its various accounts, a few weeks after having suspended them.

The state-owned company disputed the “government-funded media” label that X had placed on its accounts. The CBC/Radio-Canada has always defended itself by mentioning in particular that its independence was protected by the Broadcasting Act.

The broadcaster believes that it would have been more appropriate to add the label “publicly funded media” to the account because funding is adopted by all MPs in the House of Commons, not just the government.

Even though X ended up removing the label, CBC/Radio-Canada chose to be more present on other platforms.
