The cause of water infiltration that caused a three-hour stoppage on the blue metro line following heavy rainfall Thursday evening in Montreal is still unknown. The Société des transports de Montréal (STM) is still trying to find out how the water would have penetrated the tunnels.

More than 40 mm of rain fell late Thursday afternoon, and a significant amount seeped onto the metro tracks, particularly in the Outremont station area on Van Horne Avenue, confirms the corporate adviser of the STM, Philippe Déry, by e-mail to The Press.
A clean-up operation in the Outremont station is underway. Since January 10, the station has been closed due to major works, until August 19. The site is currently under evaluation, to know if there will be a slowdown in the work. Currently, no equipment breakage has been reported on the blue line by the STM.
Service on the blue line, which was interrupted for more than three hours on Thursday evening, resumed around 8 p.m. More than twenty buses served the metro network affected during the interruption while an STM team had to carry out major pumping and drying operations to ensure safety and “electrical regulations” , explains Philippe Déry.
He points out that the metro network has since been safe, and that ” [les] customers can continue to use the blue line with complete peace of mind”.
