The Catalan, Théo Détienne, winner of the Canigou championship

It hadn’t happened since 2010, a local won the famous Canigou championship. Théo Detienne, from Prats won in less than 3 hours (2h59 and 33 seconds). These 33 seconds are those which prevented him from beating the record of the event.

The young Catalan was overjoyed after his live win over France Bleu Roussillon: “It’s a mythical race, I really wanted to come and race here. We had sun, people, we were lucky. I had a strong desire to win here at home. A big emotion for me to win at Canigou. It is the emblematic peak that makes you dream, summer, winter, it is always beautiful. ” The fact of failing very close to the record does not diminish his joy and it motivates him above all to come back to do better.

970 runners, of various levels and with various motivations took part in the magnificent event. They left at 7 a.m. from Vernet-les-bains. The Canigou race is an institution in the department that dates back more than a century.
