the Carrefour group announces one day of absence per month for its affected employees

The brand hopes to “advance women’s rights and equality at work,” said group CEO Alexandre Bompard at a press conference.

A big step forward. The retail group Carrefour announced on Wednesday April 19 that it was authorizing 12 days of absence per year for its employees with endometriosis, “one day per month”said CEO Alexandre Bompard during a press conference. This measure, intended to “advancing women’s rights and equality in the workplace”will be subject to the presentation of a document attesting to their situation.

This measure will particularly benefit “50,000 women who work every day in Carrefour stores in France”detailed the boss of the Carrefour group, who thus hopes “changing the daily life of our colleagues so that these women can flourish in the workplace without fear of being ostracized by their health”.

The retail group also announced two other measures related to the health of women at work: “three days of authorized medical absence following a miscarriage”a measure which is currently being debated in Parliament, as well as a day off for women having recourse to PMA, “at the time of embryo transfer”.

Measures soon to be extended?

These measures currently only concern Carrefour employees in France, but Alexandre Bompard intends “adapt the announcements we are making today to all countries”while “200,000 women are currently working” for the group. Announcements should soon be made concerning Italy and Spain.

“We have the secret hope that this decision will go beyond Carrefour, that it will have a ripple effect, that other companies will take hold of it.”

“It would be good for the state to move in this direction”, also estimated the ecologist deputy Sandrine Rousseau, questioned on franceinfo. For some women, this is “unbearable pain” And “it would be normal for these pathologies, specifically female, to be recognized in the world of work”she added.
