Half the surface area of ​​Place de la Concorde, at the bottom of the Champs-Elysées, “will not be returned to motorists after the Games” Olympics, announced the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, in an interview given on Saturday January 13 to La Tribune Sunday. The socialist councilor specifies that the largest square in the capital “will be offered on the walk from the Tuileries to the obelisk” at the end of the Olympics. “Traffic is smoother by closing half of the square,” she believes.

“The Place de la Concorde, the Trocadéro and Iéna (…) with the Champ de Mars, constitute 50 hectares of pedestrian and planted spaces for walking”, underlines Anne Hidalgo. She also specifies that “60 kilometers of additional cycle paths” will be put in place “compared to what we would have done without the Games”. During the Olympic Games, Place de la Concorde will host the events of so-called urban sports, such as BMX freestyle, breakdancing, skateboarding and three-person basketball, as well as the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games.
