The CAQ will be able to resume the distribution of its leaflets on the “orange tax”

The Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) will be able to resume the distribution of leaflets that the City of Montreal deemed illegal.

The electoral law takes precedence over the municipal regulations of Montreal, supports the CAQ after verification.

The leaflets were distributed on the windshields and denounced in particular the “orange tax”, the commitments of QS to increase the tax burden of Quebecers.

The City considered it illegal, but the Election Act allows the distribution of election materials by political parties and does not regulate the methods of distribution.

“We are therefore entitled to believe that the distribution of our leaflet is authorized and perfectly legal,” the party wrote to journalists.

CAQ leader François Legault said on Saturday that his party had suspended the distribution of leaflets pending verification by his legal team.

At a press conference in Saint-Ubalde in the riding of Portneuf, Mr. Legault said that it was important to inform Quebecers about the intentions of an “orange party” which wants to impose “orange taxes”, to resume his words.
