The CAQ falls again | The duty

The decline in popularity of the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) continues. We can estimate that part of this dissatisfaction is due to the battery sector projects of the Minister of the Economy and the construction of dams, which have disastrous effects on the environment. A Léger poll from December 2023 indeed confirms the divide between the Legault government and the population. The unpopularity of the Prime Minister reached its height (bad opinion of 56% of the population) for the benefit of PSPP – but not necessarily sovereignty. In other words, if PSPP wants to maintain the trend, it will have to apply the adage “politics is the art of the possible” and make independence not an obsession, but an objective.

The Prime Minister has admitted two of his mistakes, but if he wants to regain his popularity, he still has to abolish the 30% increase in MPs’ salaries and inform the Kings of the cancellation of the announced subsidy. His entourage does not seem to give good advice: if he would kick out the Koskinens, McKinsey and company he would perhaps experience more success! This spectacular fall reveals a loss of confidence among the population in François Legault’s ability to make the appropriate decisions for Quebec. Trying to divide Quebecers by demonizing unions does not speak in its favor either. He is forced to recognize the high price of the arrogance demonstrated by his election based on opportunistic commitments and broken promises – such as the shameful denial of the reform of the voting system.

The population has discerned in their main adversary a political person with stature, impartial, who is only waiting for the moment to address with the necessary competence the issues that concern them. Mature, this potential successor can claim to inspire this population.
