Liberal leader Dominique Anglade has accused her CAQ opponent François Legault of “plagiarism” and being a “copier” following an announcement of financial assistance for seniors.
Ms. Anglade maintained on Tuesday that the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) thus demonstrates its lack of imagination.
“After daycare at $8.70, after tax cuts, now after allowances for seniors, I would tell you that François Legault is a copier, she said. Plagiarism is grounds for dismissal. One thing that is clear is that the party of the economy is the Liberal Party of Quebec (PLQ), because it is the party that has the economic ideas. »
Tuesday, campaigning in Quebec City, Ms. Anglade began her day by recalling her commitment to setting up an allowance for 70-year-old seniors who wish to stay at home as long as possible, and whose annual income is less than 50,000 $.
“It is important to put it forward because it is a key element of the electoral campaign,” said Ms. Anglade.
This amount would reach up to $2,000 annually and would be non-taxable. The Liberals had already made this proposal in November 2021 and then included it in their electoral platform unveiled in June.
“Everywhere we were told about the need to give our seniors the means to remain independent,” said the Liberal leader.
At the same time, Tuesday morning, Mr. Legault also promised an amount of $2,000 for seniors aged 70 and over.
“François Legault is out of ideas. He has to dip into the PLQ program to find his ideas,” said Ms. Anglade.
She believes that the CAQ has copied the idea of lowering taxes and converting places in private daycare into subsidized places at $8.70 a day.
The annual cost of this allowance for seniors, which is part of the “portfolio plan” of the PLQ, would be 2 billion. According to the Liberal leader, Quebec has 1.2 million people aged 70 and over.
So far, including this financial assistance, the value of the Liberals’ inflation measures totals $6 billion.
