Sunday May 28, the canals of Venice (Italy) turned green. How to explain this phenomenon ? Response elements.
The grand canal in Venice (Italy) which turns fluorescent green. The strange slick of color appeared on Sunday May 28 as the city hosted a rowing race. First certainty for firefighters, this color change would not be dangerous for humans, nor polluting. It would be an intentionally spilled dye. “We found this green stain. It looks like a liquid to trace water leaks. (…) Let’s hope these episodes don’t become frequent”explains Alessandro Scarpa, an engineer.
An artistic performance?
On the outskirts of the Grand Canal, the Venetians think of a punch operation by environmental activists. “I think it’s a regrettable event. We can’t behave like that, like vandals”, says a man. In recent weeks, the activities of the “Last Generation” group have poured black liquid into many fountains in Rome. However, normally they claim their actions. But for now, no one has claimed this green spot. “The last hypothesis could be that of an artistic performance”adds journalist Raphaële Schapira, in duplex from Venice.
