The Canadiens recalled Cayden Primeau from the Laval Rocket on Sunday morning.

This news follows Jake Allen’s injury on Saturday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The goalkeeper left the game after allowing a goal in the first period, and the team later announced that he suffered a “lower body” injury.
With the Canadiens down to 10 games, it’s not impossible that Allen’s season is over. The 31-year-old goalkeeper, whom two injuries have already forced to miss several weeks of activities since the start of the campaign, told the Sportsnet network that he was going through a “hellish season”. No additional details on his condition have leaked.
In his absence, it is logically Samuel Montembeault who would take over, unless Carey Price is ready to return to action, he who has still not played this season due to a long rehabilitation made necessary by a knee operation. While the clues point to an imminent return for Price, possibly within the next week, Primeau’s recall may mean the veteran still needs time. We can also simply want to give ourselves a safety net, while the CH plays Monday at home against the Winnipeg Jets.
After having had a very difficult time with the Canadiens earlier this season, Primeau has found his bearings in the American League. Since his return to Laval in mid-February, he has posted a record of 7 wins against 4 losses and 2 losses in overtime or in a shootout.
