The Montreal Canadiens have granted a two-year, one-way contract extension with an average annual value of $812,500 to forward Michael Pezzetta.
The team made the announcement in a press release on Friday morning. In passing, she clarified that the agreement will come into effect for the start of the 2023-24 season.
Pezzetta has seven goals and eight assists in 63 games with the Canadiens in 2022-23. The Toronto native led the team with 239 hits in addition to finishing first among Canadiens forwards in penalty minutes with 77.
He also set personal bests for games played, goals, assists and points last season.
In 112 NHL games, the 6’1”, 210 lb winger recorded 26 points, including 12 goals.
Selected in the sixth round (160e in total) by the Canadiens in the 2016 draft, Pezzetta made his NHL debut on November 2, 2021 against the Detroit Red Wings.
Pezzetta is due to participate in a media availability early Friday afternoon.
