Canada ranks sixth in the world and South Korea ranks 17and.

The Canadian women’s soccer team’s last game in Toronto was in May 2019, when they defeated Mexico 3-0 in a friendly ahead of the World Cup.

This time, the duel against South Korea will serve as preparation for the Concacaf Women’s Championship. This tournament will serve as a qualifier for the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand and the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Canada will begin its Concacaf Women’s Championship journey with group stage matches against Trinidad and Tobago on July 5, Panama on July 8 and Costa Rica on July 11.

After triumphing at the Tokyo Olympics last summer, Bev Priestman’s troupe now have the ambition to win the World Cup.

“This summer is an important time as part of our new rise and we are happy to play a game at home against such a strong team as the Republic of Korea as part of our final preparations for the Concacaf Women’s Championship in addition to face an Asian opponent ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup,” Priestman, head coach of the women’s national team, said in a statement.

The Canadians are 7-1-0 against the Koreans, including a 3-0 victory in their most recent meeting in the Algarve Cup final in March 2018.

Canada is 2-1-2 this year, including a win over world No. 4 Germany.
