Kirby Dach did a few laps on the rink on Saturday morning in Toronto, then decided to go back to the locker room.
The young striker, slowed down by a virus on Thursday and absent from the match in Raleigh, will be absent again on Saturday evening in Toronto, when the Canadian visits the home of the Maple Leafs.
Coach Martin St-Louis has confirmed another roster change, the arrival of Corey Schueneman on the Montreal blue line.
Schueneman was recalled from the Laval Rocket due to the injury to fellow defenseman Arber Xhekaj, who has been placed on the injured reserve list. Xhekaj was seen pointing his right shoulder as he left the Bell Center rink last Sunday following a fight.
Schueneman’s arrival means another defenseman, Chris Wideman, will be given a bye Saturday night in Toronto. Wideman had had a particularly tough night in the previous game, Thursday night in Raleigh. Justin Barron, battered against the Hurricanes, will be training.
The Canadian should have to face the new Maple Leafs, a team that now includes forwards Ryan O’Reilly and Noel Acciari. Both players were acquired from the St. Louis Blues in Friday night’s huge trade.
“These are two impact players who will bring them depth,” summed up coach Martin St-Louis.
Sean Monahan, who continues to attempt a comeback, is still unable to take part in regular training. Again Saturday in Toronto, he wore a no-checking jersey. “Honestly, he has stopped making progress a bit, and we’ll see what the next week will bring us,” added Martin St-Louis on this subject.
Jake Allen will be in net for the Canadiens.
