The Canadian sends Sean Monahan to Winnipeg

The Montreal Canadiens traded forward Sean Monahan to the Winnipeg Jets for a first-round pick in 2024 and another conditional third-round selection in 2027 on Friday.

Acquired from the Calgary Flames along with a 2025 first-round pick on August 18, 2022, Monahan scored 13 goals and added 22 assists for 35 points in 49 games this season.

In 74 games with the Habs, he totaled 19 goals and 52 points. In his career, he hit the target 231 times and amassed 514 points in 730 games.

Monahan will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the campaign.

The Jets are currently in third place in the Central Division with a 30-12-5 record. They are just two points behind the top-ranked Colorado Avalanche while holding two games in hand.

The Canadian is in seventh place in the Atlantic with a record of 20-21-8 good for 48 points. He is 10 points from a place in the playoff picture.
