The Montreal Canadiens have traded Slovak forward Filip Mesar to the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Junior League.
The decision was announced less than 12 hours after the Slovakian right-winger completed his first professional game in North America with the Laval Rocket.
In the Rocket’s 6-5 overtime loss to the Belleville Senators on Friday night in Laval, Mesar fired two shots on the net and finished the game with a minus-1 defensive ratio.
The 18-year-old also took part in three preseason games with the Canadiens during training camp. He posted a plus-2 defensive ratio.
Mesar was selected in the first round, ranked 26th, in the draft last July.
The day after a 3-0 loss to the Detroit Red Wings, the Canadiens are playing their third game of the season tonight in Washington, against the Capitals.
