The Canadian sells Caufield to the Laval Rocket

The Montreal Canadiens ceded forward Cole Caufield to the Laval Rocket on Monday morning and recalled Michael Pezzetta from his school club.

Caufield, 20, has an assist in 10 games with the Habs this season. The Hobey-Baker trophy winner for the U.S. college circuit MVP last year had three goals and one assist in two games with the Rocket last season.

For his part, Pezzetta has six points (3-3) in eight games with the Rocket this season. The 23-year-old hockey player also has a plus-7 rating in the American Hockey League in 2021-22.

Pezzetta took part in the team’s training session on Monday afternoon at the Bell Sports Complex. Just like defender Mattias Norlinder, for that matter.

In addition, the Bleu-blanc-rouge unsurprisingly registered the name of striker Mathieu Perreault on the injured list for two to three weeks on Monday.

Perreault, who has scored three goals and obtained an assist in eight games this season with the CH, suffers from an eye injury – a detachment of the retina, according to several media.

All of these staff moves come as the Canadiens have their worst start to the season in 80 years.

The Canadian (2-8-0, 4 pts) has his worst record after 10 games since the 1941-42 season (1-8-1, 3 pts).

Head coach Dominique Ducharme’s men completed their four-game trip to the West on Sunday with a 1-3 record, and are 30th in the NHL – just ahead of the poor Chicago Blackhawks and Arizona Coyotes.

In addition, the NHL has announced that forward Cédric Paquette will have a hearing for his checking from behind at the expense of Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras.

Brendan Gallagher was also missing against the Ducks, after briefly taking part in the warm-up. We do not yet know the nature of his injury, as well as the severity of it.

The Canadian will return to the Bell Center on Tuesday evening to host the Detroit Red Wings.
