The Canadian | Mitchell Stephens agrees to one-year, two-part contract

(Montreal) Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes added offensive depth on Monday after announcing the team had agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way contract with Mitchell Stephens.


Stephens, who hails from Peterborough, Ont., has scored 20 goals and 21 assists in 68 games with the Laval Rocket in 2022-23, in addition to serving 49 penalty minutes.

The 26-year-old center has played a total of 72 NHL career games so far with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Detroit Red Wings, recording 13 points (3-10).

The five-foot-11, 197-pound forward also had 57 goals and 68 assists in 203 American Hockey League games with the Syracuse Crunch and Rocket.

Stephens was selected in the second round, 33e in total, by the Lightning in the 2015 NHL Draft.
