The Montreal Canadiens have signed a first professional contract, for a period of two years and an average annual value of $925,000, to goaltender Jakub Dobes.
General manager Kent Hughes made the announcement in a press release on Friday afternoon.
The contract with the Canadiens will cover the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 seasons. In addition, Dobes has also signed an agreement with the Laval Rocket which will allow him to complete the season in the American Hockey League.
The 21-year-old, six-foot-five, 197-pound goalie was 21-16-3 in 40 games for Ohio State University in the NCAA Big 10 Division.
Dobes posted a 2.31 goals-against-average, .918 save percentage and three shutouts.
A native of Ostrava, Czech Republic, Dobes was selected in the fifth round (136th overall) by the Canadiens in the 2020 National Hockey League Draft.
