The Montreal Canadiens have awarded a two-year, two-way contract to forward Brandon Gignac.
General manager Kent Hughes made the announcement in a press release Sunday morning, a few hours before the Habs’ training session at the CN Sports Complex.
The press release specifies that the agreement covers the current campaign and the 2024-2025 season.
Gignac will participate in the Canadian’s training session on Sunday afternoon.
A native of Repentigny, Gignac played 43 games with the Laval Rocket this season, amassing 42 points, including 14 goals.
The 26-year-old forward dominates the Laval team in terms of goals, assists and points. He ranked tied for fifth in American League scoring at the time of signing his contract.
A third-round pick of the New Jersey Devils in 2016, Gignac joined the Canadiens organization on July 29, 2021 by signing a contract with the Rocket.
He played only one game in the National Hockey League, on March 9, 2019, in the Devils uniform against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. He had been held in check.
Furthermore, the Canadian also announced the recall of center player Lucas Condotta from the Rocket.
This recall comes a little less than 48 hours after the transaction that sent center Sean Monahan to the Winnipeg Jets.
Condotta has five goals and eight assists in 40 games with the Rocket this season.
This is the second time in less than two weeks that he finds himself with the Canadian, after his recall by the Habs on January 24.
Condotta took part in two games with the Habs this season, on January 25 against the New York Islanders at the Bell Center and two days later, in Pittsburgh, against the Penguins. He was cleared in each of these meetings.
The Canadian returned it to the Rocket immediately after the game against the Penguins.
On April 13, 2023, in his very first NHL game, Condotta found the back of the net in a 5-4 loss for the Canadian against the Boston Bruins at the Bell Centre.
