The Canadian flag, symbol of the extreme right

The Canadian flag is currently flying in the streets of a growing number of democratic countries invaded by antivax, conspiracy theorists and other citizens at their wit’s end due to the constraints of the pandemic.

In Canada, anti-everything protesters have turned into followers of Trump and dream like the former American president that he will replace Biden, elected last November after supposedly “stealing” the election.

The weakness, not to say the inability, of Justin Trudeau to exercise power partly explains the global craze of the far right, which in these dark times for democracy has found an ideological icon in the person of Donald Trump.

Trump and his shock troops, mentored by television and radio hosts and commentators, have never appreciated Canada so much, a country they consider ridiculously peaceful and tolerant of sleeping tall, but also a northern neighbor who serves as a stepping stone for them to make their slogan “Make America Great Again” heard.

More than half of Americans no longer believe in democracy and are chomping at the bit to overthrow this “communist” system that they loathe.

brutal violence

Truth and normalcy are no longer benchmarks. Worse, they are social and intellectual flaws in a way. This breeding ground favors the spread of falsehood, imposture and brutal violence.

As for reason, it becomes a target for conspirators, fundamentalists of all genders and creeds. Democracy based on reason and law is intolerable for all those who wish the collapse of our Western countries in favor of nothingness, anarchy or the victory of so-called populist leaders, who ignore the real freedom, dignity and equality.

We are in a turmoil, in the eye of a cyclone that barbarians are hoping to better impose themselves on us.

Overflows

How to explain these outbursts of enraged citizens that have spread across the world since truckers invaded Ottawa, the once most peaceful, discreet and colorless capital compared to Paris, London, Brussels, and so many other cities? which are added from one day to another and which unfurl the Canadian flag as a symbol?

The world is crazy, the world has lost its footing and freedom has become a meaningless word. Morality is gone, families are broken up and the definition of gender and sex is a “smorgasbord”. Billionaires have become even richer in two years while the destitute in rich countries live on the sidewalks. Children no longer have a childhood and Tinder is the royal road to love.

A crisis of civilization is setting in. Today’s politicians draped in their narcissism, naivety, short-sightedness and soul-sickness are challenged by crass characters, helium-filled populists or uneducated people who ignore that the being human is paradoxical, oscillating between good and evil. In other words, we are currently living through a period that is all the more tragic in that democracy remains a fragile jewel.
