Alex Burrows will not be back behind the Canadian bench. The assistant coach has decided to step down from his duties in order to spend more time with his family, revealed Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports.
He will be given another position in the organization, the reporter added. The organization has not yet confirmed the information.
At the end of his career of more than 900 games in the NHL, in 2018, the Quebecer became an assistant coach with the Laval Rocket. During the winter of 2021, the Canadian repatriated him to give him the same role in Montreal. He then survived the change of guard which saw Martin St-Louis take over as head coach a year later.
In recent seasons, he was particularly responsible for the team’s power play.
The organization will have a lot to do in the coming weeks to replenish its coaching staff. In addition to Burrows, management will have to find a head coach and an assistant in Laval, to replace Jean-François Houle and Kelly Buchberger, who both resigned.
