The Montreal Canadiens have recalled forward Alex Belzile from his American Hockey League school club ahead of Tuesday night’s game against the Detroit Red Wings.
Belzile, 30, made two appearances for the Canadiens last season and collected an assist. In six outings with the Laval Rocket this fall, he had one goal and three assists.
The Canadian also recalled striker Michael Pezzetta from the Rocket on Monday, in addition to ceding Cole Caufield to his club-school.
Head coach Dominique Ducharme said Monday that Brendan Gallagher’s participation in Tuesday’s meeting at the Bell Center was uncertain. Cédric Paquette will serve the first of a two-game suspension.
The Canadian (2-8-0) takes over after concluding a trip to the American West Coast with a 1-3-0 record.
He is crossing swords with the Red Wings for a second time this season. The Habs won 6-1 on October 23.
