MEP Valérie Hayer, head of the Renaissance list, was not the president’s first choice. But no one within the party wanted to take the risk of a potential setback on June 9, during the European elections. A few weeks before the European vote, Sunday April 21, the presidential party’s campaign is slipping. The majority nervously scrutinizes the polls which find their candidate in trouble.

The National Rally (RN) is racing in the lead far ahead of Renaissance, closely followed by Raphaël Glucksmann. According to an MP, the party is preparing for a defeat against the far right, and could be overtaken by the list carried by the left. Could presidential intervention turn the tide?
