Prime Minister François Legault announces that the election campaign will be launched on Sunday, August 28, in view of the October 3 election.

In a video posted on his Facebook page, late Tuesday afternoon, Mr. Legault maintains that “August 28, it starts for real”. He also wished a good campaign to all the candidates who will present themselves with the objective of obtaining a seat in the National Assembly.

Under the Quebec Elections Act, the outgoing government had to table its decree confirming the calling of the elections between Thursday August 25 and Monday August 29 in order to hold the poll on Monday October 3 – a date that had already been announced.

Already election announcements

Even if the campaign will get underway only on Sunday, the five main political parties have already made several commitments in the event that they are brought to power after the election.

On Tuesday, the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) announced that it will create a $650 million fund for the health of the various bodies of water in Quebec if it obtains a second mandate.

For its part, the Liberal Party of Quebec (PLQ) is committed to ensuring that every patient in Quebec has a family doctor under a government led by Dominique Anglade.

On Monday, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon’s Parti Québécois (PQ) put forward its idea of offering unlimited access to public transit at a price equivalent to $1 a day. That same day, Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois presented, on behalf of Québec solidaire (QS), a “Provision poupons” which would consist of a new financial assistance program for new parents orphans of a daycare place and which cannot return to work for this reason.

Among Éric Duhaime’s Conservatives, the electoral machine was deployed last weekend, when the party held the official launch of its campaign on Sunday in Quebec City.

Since then, the PCQ has announced that it intends to oblige all children to do a minimum of 30 minutes of physical education every day, preferably in the morning, from kindergarten to the end of high school.

Despite these promises already on the table, the date of the election call remains important, since it is from this moment that party expenses begin to be recorded.
