The registration period for the 2023 summer internships of Duty is officially open! This year, we will welcome seven interns thanks to the financial support of our valued partners, Concordia University, Les Amis du Duty and the Quebec Research Fund – Society and Culture (FRQSC).
“Through these internships, we contribute to the training of the next generation in journalism, a profession that is essential to maintaining the democratic balance,” explains the director of the Duty, Brian Myles. The internships will be remunerated thanks to the support of our partners. This was paramount to us, as we know this is a concern for students. »
Selected students will have the chance to follow the rhythm – relatively frenetic, be warned! — journalistic production. Recruits will participate in production meetings, field assignments, and they will be able to follow all stages of content preparation, from ideation to distribution. Different sectors, various formats and journalistic styles will be offered to them. The internship will stretch over eight weeks, in the middle of summer, and will be supervised by experienced journalists and the news department.
For a fourth year, this internship is taking shape because The duty and its partners believe in training the next generation, an essential contribution to the future of our profession. Moreover, our editorial staff today has employees who cut their teeth during previous internships.
Concordia University and Friends of Duty have been partners in this adventure from the start. “Internships give students the opportunity to apply what they have learned in the real world in real time,” says Graham Carr, President and Vice-Chancellor of Concordia University. They come out changed, as does the community. »
This year, thanks to a brand new association with the FRQSC, we will choose three interns (out of the seven) who will practice scientific journalism, in the field of social and human sciences. “The FRQSC – Société et culture is pleased to be associated with the Duty, says Louise Poissant, scientific director of the FRQSC. We believe that these internships will help train the next generation in knowledge mobilization. »
The call for applications is open until March 31. It is intended for any student taking undergraduate or graduate studies at Concordia University or any other university in Quebec. Aspiring journalists don’t necessarily have to come from a journalism program, but they definitely have to dream of becoming a reporter one day. We are on the lookout for candidates who are curious, resourceful, daring and gifted in writing. Good luck to all of you !
