In Plouaret, in Brittany, residents decided to sell pancakes outside a supermarket to help finance a nursing home. Family and employees are worried because the retirement home no longer has enough money to cope with inflation. And this is not an isolated case, hundreds of municipalities are preparing to take the State to court.

A wind of anger is rising over the nursing home in the small town of Plouaret (Côtes-d’Armor). Today, residents of this nursing home pay on average 2,000 euros per month, an amount which includes accommodation, food, care and entertainment. But the charges continue to increase and the rent could be revised upwards. “It scares us a little. Our small pensions are not increasing”worries Yvonne Le Bivic, 92 years old.

A growing deficit

On the other hand, the deficit increases and amounts to 150,000 euros. After Covid, the State decided to grant bonuses to employees of public nursing homes without fully financing them. 20% remains the responsibility of the establishments. Which represents too heavy a salary increase, not to mention the increase in the price of food and the cost of energy. Faced with this dramatic situation, certain Breton mayors are preparing to attack the State.
