The Caisse de dépôt buys a solar power plant in Japan

The Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec acquires an 80% stake in a solar power plant.

This is the Caisse’s first investment in this sector since the announced alliance with a Japanese partner, Shizen Energy, in 2022.

The Caisse then invested 186 million to support the growth of Shinzen and was committed to making other investments with its partner.

The Inuyama solar plant was built by Shinzen Energy, which retains a 20% stake and will be the operator. The installation which has just been inaugurated has a production capacity of 31 megawatts, which can suffice the needs of 7,850 households in Japan.

Shizen Energy has a portfolio of renewable energy projects that could be completed within three to five years in which the Caisse is considering a participation.

“Japan plays a key role in the decarbonization of Asia and, as a seasoned investor in the renewable energy sector, we are delighted to partner with our portfolio company Shizen Energy,” Emmanuel commented in a statement.
