The Gavaudun Valley is a valley on the borders of black Périgord, Quercy and Agenais. It is a listed natural wooded valley natural Park according to the 1930 law. It was formed around the bed of the Lède, a tributary of the Lémance. This valley has always attracted men. Until the 20th century, the water of the Lède supplied many mills such as the Cabirol mill in the town of Gavaudun and located halfway between the Château de Biron and the Château de Gavaudun. The origin of this mill appears on the maps of Belleyme and Cassini and watches over the Lède since 1550. A somewhat sleepy mill but bought by Sébastien Cailler who rehabilitates it with his spouse.
“All the mills were fortified from the Middle Ages to protect themselves from brigands who passed through this valley. At the Cabirol mill, we have very old foundations.”
A mill that reveals its secrets and treasures as it is cleaned. By cutting, tearing, the new owners discovered dry stone walls, the hydraulic system of the mill. The Cabirol mill had a double function. On one side the mill was used to make walnut oil and right next to it, they made flour.
