The fire started around 7 p.m. before the service this Saturday evening August 27, 2022 in the building of the Maison Gambert bistronomic restaurant in Tain-l’Hermitage in Drôme. Restaurant staff immediately headed outside upon seeing the fumes above the establishment. The fire was brought under control in the evening after 9 p.m.
The roof of the building was completely destroyed by the flames. The first floor occupied by a seminar room called “Fief Gambert” burned down. In this space, Maison Gambert welcomes staff from companies. Fortunately the restaurant has been preserved.
For Ludovic Beau, general manager of the Cave de Tain, the disaster is all the more sad as the Maison Gambert building is steeped in history: “beyond the material destruction, it is part of the history of the Cave de Tain that flies away. It is nevertheless the house of the founder, Louis Gambert de Loche, which was largely destroyed this evening! The building was renovated in 2007 and was in operation thanks to the restaurant in particular.”
An investigation is underway. The cause of the accident is not known at this stage.
