The broken government web-based screening platform

The website of the Government of Quebec devoted to screening for COVID-19 has been down since Wednesday evening, even though tens of thousands of Quebecers are trying day after day to find out whether they have contracted the famous virus.

“We are currently in a maintenance period. The platform will be available shortly, please try again later, ”the screening platform still soberly displayed on its home page in the morning on Thursday.

Like elected officials, the website also encouraged Quebecers to avoid going to a screening center.

“We remind you that screening at a screening center should be considered only if you have symptoms of COVID-19 and that you do not have rapid tests”, we could read on the site.

In recent days, Public Health has performed more than 40,000 PCR tests each day, with a positivity rate climbing to 28% on Wednesday. This means that more than one in four Quebecers who come to a screening center does indeed have COVID-19.

The number of tests has dipped slightly this holiday season when it exceeded 50,000 in the days leading up to Christmas, with a positivity rate twice as low.
