A few days before the enthronement of King Charles III, the 13 Hours takes you behind the scenes of the preparations for this historic event, Wednesday 26 April.
For those who risked forgetting the eminence of the royal coronation, two owners of a pub in East London are already pulling out all the stops. Their entire establishment is draped in the colors of the royal family. About fifty people have reserved their table there to play a special quiz on the royal family and King Charles III. “We answered everything we knew and made up everything we didn’t know”, players joke. But all are still far from being on point about the enthronement of the king.
A special dish concocted for the coronation
And for good reason, the last coronation, that of Elizabeth II, dates back to June 2, 1953. The subjects of her majesty then flock to the streets of the whole country to celebrate the event and popular fervor is at its height. At lunchtime, endless tables fill up. We meet there with neighbors to have tea and share a banquet in the street. A recipe was even created for the occasion: coronation chicken, also known as Elizabeth II chicken. Charles III chose spinach quiche as his signature coronation dish, 70 years after his mother’s chicken.
