The cyclists have another appointment in Catalan lands, Friday March 25, for the fifth stage between La Pobla de Segur and Vilanova i la Geltrú. After a stage made up of three first category climbs, won by the Portuguese João Almeida, the route of the day is less vertical with only one third category climb at the start of the race.
New leader of the general classification, Nairo Quintana should be able to keep his white and green jersey. The Colombian, who came second in Thursday’s stage, seems to be in good shape in this Tour of Catalonia. The fifth stage should not upset the general classification, it remains to be seen if the sprinters will play for the win, or if the brave escapees of the day will go to the end.
