The first president and the attorney general of the Bourges Court of Appeal denounced, Wednesday May 1 in a press release, “hateful and threatening remarks” made on social networks against a magistrate since the murder of Matisse, last Saturday in Châteauroux, reports France Bleu Berry.

This magistrate, who has not worked in Châteauroux for several months and who has nothing to do with the case, was named on social networks by Internet users, often close to the extreme right. These Internet users criticize him for having released the teenager suspected of having killed Matisse, before the tragedy occurred. The main suspect in Matisse’s murder had indeed been involved in two other cases, including a violent robbery that occurred a week before Matisse’s murder. He was then placed under judicial supervision.

In their press release, the first president of the Bourges Court of Appeal, Alain Vanzo, and the attorney general of the same court, Éric Maillaud, explain that “this colleague, whose name is unfairly made known to the general public, never intervened, in any capacity whatsoever, in the civil or criminal proceedings concerning young R. [mis en examen pour le meurtre de Matisse]”.

They add that “we can only be indignant at the fact, in defiance of the law which represses all forms of threats and hatred online and in the anonymity provided by the internet and social networks, of violently criticizing the legitimate action of magistrates which, in strict compliance with the texts and international commitments of France, only consider the incarceration of a young minor who commits crimes – whatever their origin – with the legitimate caution that everyone has the right to to wait for”.
