The Booksellers’ Prize announces its finalists

The Association des libraires du Québec (ALQ) unveiled this Thursday the 24 finalists for the 2022 edition of the Prix des libraires du Québec, while reading has experienced unparalleled enthusiasm for two years.

These titles from here and elsewhere have charmed the various committees from independent bookstores, chains and school cooperatives who will vote now to designate a winner in each of the six categories.

In the Quebec novel-short story-narrative category, five titles stood out: After Celesteby Maude Nepveu-Villeneuve (Your mother), The daughter of herselfby Gabrielle Boulianne-Tremblay (leaf merchant), The falling shadowsby Christian Guay-Poliquin (La Peuplade), A thousand secrets, a thousand dangersby Alain Farah (Le Quartanier) and Everything is oriby Paul Serge Forest (VLB).

Christian Guay-Poliquin is one of the finalists in the novel-short story-narrative category for The falling shadows (The People).

Outside Quebec, the novels, short stories and stories that were selected are Deacon King Kongby James McBride (Gallmeister), And with one arm the sister sweeps her houseby Cherie Jones (Calmann-Lévy), Mrs Hayatby Ahmet Altan (Actes Sud), Our part of the nightby Mariana Enriquez (From the basement) and True storyby Kate Reed Petty (Gallmeister).

As for the Quebec trials, the four finalists are Auassat : In search of missing childrenby Anne Panasuk (Editorial), corsair girlsby Camille Toffoli (Remue-Ménage), The eye of the masterby Dalie Giroux (Inkwell Memory) and Racists have never seen the seaby Rodney Saint-Eloi and Yara El-Ghadban (Inkwell Memory).

Camille Toffoli found herself among the finalists in the essay category for corsair girls (Stirring Household).

Four titles were also selected in the Quebec poetry category, namely Search the rubbleby Flavia Garcia (Inkwell Memory), inhabitantsby Anick Arsenault (L’Écrou), The thiefby Daria Colonna (Poets of the bush) and When I say nothing I still thinkby Camille Readman Prud’homme (The Goose of Cravan).

Among Quebec comics, three titles stood out: The little astronautby Jean-Paul Eid (The Watermelon), Mégantic-A train in the nightby Anne-Marie Saint-Cerny and Christian Quesnel (Ecosociety) and Free time, by Mélanie Leclerc (General Mechanics). Three other comics were also selected in the non-Quebec category: I killed the sunby Winshluss (Gallimard), desolationby Apollo and Christophe Gaultier (Dargaud) and Rein. and sleeping woodsby Elene Usdin (Sarbacane).

The winners will be announced on May 11. The ALQ Excellence Award will also be presented on this occasion to highlight the exceptional work of a bookseller.
