The Bonneuil-Matours bridge closed at least until September 2023

You will have to be patient before you can cross the Vienne at Bonneuil-Matours. The cable bridge, dating from 1932, will remain closed for works at least until September 2023. The collapse of one of the bridge piers forced the department of Vienne to define a new calendar. Calendar validated this Wednesday, June 1th after several months of reflection.

We do not know the details of the work but the construction should resume next September for a gradual reopening 12 months later. Imposing pipes will have to be driven into the bed of the river. A special order whose manufacturing delays may be particularly long due to the supply crisis known to the steel industry.

This extension of the site will cost 3 million euros more at the department. That is a total budget of 10 million euros.

Before its closure in January 2021, 3,000 people used this bridge every day.
