The body of the ice climber who disappeared last March in Gavarnie has been found

The search could not continue due to bad weather conditions. The body of Johan Fagot, this Landais who had been swept away by an avalanche on March 10, at the Gavarnie circus, was finally found this Sunday afternoon by the CRS of Gavarnie. Ski instructor in Cauterets, he was an experienced mountaineer. He was climbing an icefall when he was surprised by several successive avalanches. According to the rescuers, he was not wearing a beacon that would allow him to be detected quickly in the event of an accident.

Complicated research

The days following his disappearance, the search could not be completed. It had then snowed heavily and the rescuers had not been able to get to the foot of the wall where he had fallen. Two gendarmes from the PGHM had also been buried but had managed to get out of the snow.
