The body of an octogenarian fished out in Montreal

An 83-year-old man missing since last Sunday in Montreal was found dead in the Rivière des Prairies on Friday afternoon. The cause of his death is undetermined, but would not be linked to a criminal act, according to the SPVM.

Erick-Antoine Guerrier, 83, was last seen walking north on Hébert Avenue from Henri-Bourassa Est Boulevard in the Montreal North borough. The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) had alerted to his disappearance last Sunday.

The octogenarian, blind in his right eye, could have difficulty finding his way and could have sought refuge in an isolated place, such as a shed, the SPVM had indicated.

On Friday, the body of Mr. Guerrier was found on a bank of the Rivière des Prairies, near the borough of Montreal-Nord. The SPVM was able to confirm his identity, the police force said in a press release.

There is no evidence to indicate that it could be a criminal act, according to the SPVM. At this time, the cause of death is undetermined.
