An investigation was opened after the discovery Friday afternoon of the lifeless body of a newborn in the toilets of Bergerac station (Dordogne), AFP learned from the prosecution, Saturday April 30. The body was found by a cleaning lady in the toilet bowl for people with reduced mobility, where there were also blood and placenta, said the deputy prosecutor of Bergerac, Charles Charollois.

The latter opened an investigation into the causes of death, entrusted to the Bergerac police station. An autopsy scheduled for Tuesday in Bordeaux will have to determine “whether the child, male, was born alive or died in utero”which will guide the qualification of the facts, explained the deputy prosecutor.

According to France Bleu Périgord, it was first station customers who discovered the public toilets covered in blood on Friday around 2 p.m. They then informed the station master. He believed in the consequences of a fight and warned a cleaning company to clean the place. A cleaning lady, who arrived shortly before 3 p.m., discovered the body of the newborn baby in the toilet bowl. According to the deputy prosecutor of Bergerac, Charles Charollois, contacted by France Bleu Perigord, the body of the baby was “covered with toilet paper”.

Searches with local hospitals about a woman possibly in distress have been carried out, without success, and Bergerac station does not have surveillance cameras.
