The body found on a beach in Stella-Plage (Pas-de-Calais) by a bather on Saturday afternoon is indeed that of the missing boy, confirmed the Boulogne-sur-Mer prosecutor to France Bleu Nord on Monday morning, August 19. An investigation to find the causes of death has been opened to explain the death of this 10-year-old child. He was bathing in Berck when he got into difficulty and disappeared.
On Thursday, around 5pm, three children who were swimming in a supervised area, under a yellow flag, when they found themselves in difficulty. Two of them, aged 10 and 13, were rescued, but not the last one. It was the 10-year-old child, twin of the missing child, who raised the alarm.
Since late Thursday afternoon, searches were therefore being carried out to find the boy. The beach at Berck had been evacuated, a helicopter and a drone flew over the area. A dog team was also mobilised. Searches at sea were carried out in the evening, but also on the coast, as they could not be carried out in the Channel at night. The system was lifted at 4am before being reactivated on Friday.
A small body was then found in Stella-Plage on Saturday afternoon by a bather, 10 km north of where the boy disappeared. It is “probably” of the child, announced the prosecutor of Boulogne-sur-Mer, awaiting the autopsy before confirming the information.
