The bodies of a woman and a man were discovered on Friday January 12 in an apartment in Saint-Mandrier-sur-Mer, near Toulon (Var), reports France Bleu Provence.

According to the Toulon public prosecutor’s office, the facts took place “probably Thursday evening” but the bodies were only discovered “this Friday afternoon” by a family member. The woman was 56 years old and the man was 66 years old. The prosecution favors the trail of femicide followed by suicide.

A couple divorced for several years

According to the first elements of the investigation, the man entered his ex-wife’s apartment located on the first floor of a residence on Thursday evening. A ladder was discovered at the scene. He then shot her and killed himself. The Toulon public prosecutor’s office indicates that the couple had been divorced for several years.

The sixty-year-old was tried in January 2023 by the Toulon court for “harassment by ex-spouse”. He was given a four-month suspended prison sentence with a two-year ban on having contact with the victim and a ban on appearing at his home. An investigation was opened for assassination and entrusted to the La Seyne-sur-Mer police station.
