The public prosecutor of Montbauban announced in a press release, Friday April 5, that the body of a man was discovered “following further research” in the municipality of Sao Vicente in Madeira. The day before, the Portuguese authorities had announced the discovery of the body of a woman who could be the French tourist missing since March 16 on the island with her companion. The body was spotted at the end of the day by a hiker, according to Portuguese police. The prosecutor, however, recalls that it is currently “impossible to say with certainty that it is the couple”.

The Montauban public prosecutor announced last week the opening of an investigation into the worrying disappearance of a French couple from Beaumont-de-Lomagne (Tarn-et-Garonne). The two tourists, who run a bakery according to the French press, were on vacation on the island of Madeira and have not given any sign of life since they left on March 16 for a “little hike” in Sao Vicente. It was their 27-year-old daughter who, not seeing them return even though they had only left with two bottles of water, raised the alarm the same day, the prosecutor said in a press release.
