With a two-goal deficit to go, Chelsea travel to Madrid on Tuesday 12 April in the hope of turning the tide. A challenge that promises to be daunting for the English as they have been dominated by the Merengues. Karim Benzema, author of a second consecutive hat-trick in the first leg, after that against PSG, had cracked the defense of the Blues. Edouard Mendy, yet author of fourteen “clean sheets” in twenty C1 meetings, was notably at fault after returning from the locker room.
But Chelsea have reason to hope after winning well against Southampton (6-0) thanks to doubles from Mason Mount and Timo Werner. Opposite, Real Madrid also ensured in the league to keep the lead in La Liga. A victory (2-0) against Getafe which allowed Carlo Ancelotti’s men to prepare well for the reception of the Blues in their den of Santiago-Bernabeu where they have lost only once this season: a defeat (2- 1) against Sheriff Tiraspol completely against the course of play.
