A lost final, but a consistency which does honor to the French rugby sevens team. The Blues, defeated in the final of the Hong Kong tournament, Sunday April 7, by New Zealand (10-7), remain on three semi-finals in a row in the Sevens Series, a promising series a few months before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, when they even won the Los Angeles tournament. Without Antoine Dupont, who remained in the XV club in Toulouse, they left with the silver medal after errors made in the final, which allowed the New Zealanders to score two tries in the second half.
The Blues only managed to pierce the opposing defensive curtain at the very end of the match, eight seconds from the siren, with a converted try for the honor of Varian Pasquet. This tournament remains encouraging since they beat Ireland, second in the world rankings, in the semi-final (26-10). Jérôme Daret’s men are in fourth place, but are getting closer to the podium, only two points behind Fiji.
The French women’s team returns empty-handed from Hong Kong. Les Bleues lost in the small final against Australia (24-21).
