The Blue Jays suffer a tough setback against the Marlins

(Miami) Luis Arraez went five-for-five at bat and Jorge Soler hit a long ball as the Miami Marlins outscored the Toronto Blue Jays 11-0 on Monday.

Jon Berti had three hits and Jesús Sánchez had two deuces for the Marlins, who finished the game with a season-high 19 hits and won their fifth straight game.

Arraez has hits in 67 games played, the second fastest player to 100 hits in Marlins history. Dee Strange-Gordon reached that milestone in 65 games in 2015. Bo Bichette had two hits for the Blue Jays. Bichette also hit the 100 hit mark with a single in the ninth inning.

“It’s fun because we’re winning and everybody’s getting hits,” Arraez said. I’m excited for this team. We are a family when we show up on the pitch. »

Arraez’s fifth single to left field produced two of five in the seventh inning.

Soler hit a two-run long ball and Garrett Cooper also hit a third-inning single to make it 3-0 for the Marlins.

Pitcher Bryan Hoeing pitched four scoreless innings. He allowed three hits and struck out five, a career high.

Daulton Varsho and Bichette got singles in the fourth inning.

“They made it work,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider said. He made a lot of throws. The execution just wasn’t there. They have a good team and are playing well at the moment. »
