Until then a writer, he was hired as a cook in a small restaurant frequented by seasonal workers and breeders. It is there that he meets Silvia, a young waitress who becomes his lover. With her, he rediscovers the pleasure of living in the mountains, marveling at the fact that a year earlier he was still arguing with his ex in an apartment in Milan.

The seasons pass and he puts his anchors in this part of the country, becoming attached to a singular former forest ranger and following this utopia which he nicknames the “live-where-you-are-happy”.

With this contemplative and aerial novel which reconciles us with the art of living one day at a time, Paolo Cognetti once again signs a sublime ode to the mountains in the vein of eight mountains, his title which won him the Medici Prize for Foreign Novel in 2017.
