Three wins in three games, the Bleuets have achieved a clear round in the group stage of the Euro Espoirs, in Romania. By easily winning against Switzerland (4-1) on Wednesday June 28, France secured first place in Group D, which allowed them to avoid Spain in the quarter-finals. They will face Ukraine for a place in the last four.
The first half was laborious. It was once again Amine Gouiri who scored the first goal from the penalty spot (16th) before Switzerland, more enterprising at the start of the match, equalized thanks to Dan Ndoye (35th). Les Bleuets then broke away in the second period thanks to three Lyonnais players, first with Bradley Barcola (65th), then Rayan Cherki drove home the point with a fine sequence (76th), before Maxence Caqueret joined in the celebration ( 81st).
If everything was not perfect, Sylvain Ripoll’s players gave their best performance since the start of the tournament, after two first sluggish outings. Their second match against Norway was not brilliant (1-0) and the start against Italy was painful (2-1). 35 years after the last coronation of Laurent Blanc and Eric Cantonna at Euro Espoir, the Bleuets approach the final phase with confidence, but will have to do without Michael Olise, package since Monday, and now Manu Koné, touched in the knee Wednesday evening.
