A month after the revelations of the independent commission on sexual abuse in the Church (CIASE), the bishops meet in Lourdes for their plenary assembly. The opportunity to come back to the scandal that taint the institution.
The French bishops are under pressure. After the publication of the Sauvé report bringing acts of pedophilia in the Church since 1950 to around 330,000 by the Independent Commission on Sexual Abuse in the Church (CIASE), the Episcopal of France met in Lourdes for a seminary of ‘one week. “What a shame to see all this suffering, all this injustice which, for 70 years (…) has inhabited the Church with pain, suffering, injustice, vis-à-vis the victims.“, for example declared Monsignor Luc Crépy, bishop of Versailles and head of the permanent unit for the fight against pedophilia.
“The first step is to admit your fault“, begins François Dervaux, founder of the collective La Parole Libérée. Before continuing:”And then we fix it and we guarantee it won’t repeat“The rest of the week should be busy for the bishops who will have to discuss the fight against child crime, the recognition of victims and their compensation, without forgetting the responsibility of the Church.
