The Bishop of Nîmes announces that he will celebrate a “reparation mass” after the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games, Friday in Paris, reports France Bleu Gard Lozère on Tuesday, July 30. This decision was taken in reaction to the painting “Festivity” resembling the Last Supper – the last meal of Jesus Christ with his apostles – during the ceremony.

This Saturday, August 3, Monsignor Nicolas Brouwet will celebrate in the Notre-Dame and Saint-Castor Cathedral of Nîmes, a “reparation mass”In a press release published on the website of the diocese of Nîmes, the bishop explains that a “A real offense was done to the Lord in Paris during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games by the performance of a parody of the Last Supper”.

Nicolas Brouwet says the Games “which unite so many nations in the search for surpassing physical abilities and team spirit – faster, higher, stronger, together – have been manipulated to outrage the Christian faith in one of its greatest mysteries: the gift that Christ makes of himself in his Eucharist”.

The bishop also asks priests to celebrate a “reparation mass” and to offer a Holy Hour before the Blessed Sacrament to parish communities and religious communities.
